  23. Yes. Expect an upgrade price to be in the vicinity of 1/3 of the list price.

  32. I hear many things like this and "is NewTek still going to support Amiga
  33. LightWave?".

  35. The answer is 'yes' we believe in Amiga LW. The reaction to all the attention
  36. to PC (etc.) LW reminds me of the reaction of young children (no belittlement
  37. intended) when mom brings home a new baby. They are jealous of all the
  38. attention heaped on the newcomer.

  40. For one thing, Amiga LW makes NewTek money and for that reason alone we will
  41. support the platform. Also, we are actively promoting the Amiga Flyer, which
  42. has LightWave included as its 3D program. And finally, there is the
  43. sentimental attachment to the platform (and OS) that put NewTek on the map.

  45. Having said all that, there are some important problems with supporting the
  46. Amiga. With the failure of CBM, much hardware and software development
  47. stopped. NewTek can develop Amiga LW, but if the hardware can't handle the
  48. increasing demands of the interface (or of rendering) and if compilers are
  49. not updated, there is not much we can do. (A recent trial of a newer Amiga
  50. compiler showed it to be so full of bugs as to be unusable.)

  52. For instance, what should we do when faced with the choice to leave features
  53. out of the Amiga version because it can't handle them or of leaving them out
  54. of the other versions to keep interface uniformity across platforms? This is
  55. a tough question, and no matter what we decide, someone won't like the
  56. decision.

  58. Perhaps this latest VISCOM deal will have some (more) positive repercussions
  59. for the Amiga platform. Time will tell.
